Floyd Mayweather Being Released from Jail This Week
Aug 2nd 2012, 03:17

After being granted time off for "work and good behavior," Floyd Mayweather Jr. is set to be released from prison this weekend.

According to the Associated Press, records show that Mayweather is set for release from the Clark County Detention Center, where he had been serving his 90-day sentence since June 1.

The undefeated world super-welterweight champion champion was sentenced after pleading guilty to misdemeanor charges in a felony domestic violence case that stemmed from an incident in September 2010 with his then-girlfriend.

In terms of his career, the sooner he can get out the better. At 35, Mayweather can't afford to let himself get too out of boxing shape and expect to return to top form.

This was something that was obviously on the mind of Mayweather. Not long after he was in prison, his attorneys filed to have him complete the rest of his sentence under house arrest. They claimed that Mayweather was not able to stay in top shape while in prison. The request was denied.

As long as Mayweather is dedicated, it is difficult to see how his just-over-two-month incarceration would derail his career. It's not like he was forced to remain sedentary while behind bars.

Then again, he also wouldn't have been doing any heavy training during this time, as his last fight was on May 5 against Miguel Cotto.

Mayweather is now essentially free to resume his career as if he was never locked up.

With Mayweather out from behind bars, we can now all resume speculating whether the mega-fight with Manny Pacquiao will ever happen.
