Floyd Mayweather: Release from Jail Will Breathe New Life into Superstar Boxer
Aug 3rd 2012, 10:55

Floyd Mayweather's time in jail is coming to an end. His status as the best boxer in the world isn't going away anytime soon. As the undefeated, seven-division champion gets his freedom back, you have to wonder what's going to come next.

After serving 63 days in Clark County Detention Center, Mayweather was released to the free world once again. There may be a lot of questions that everyone has, but all that really matters is what, if anything, Mayweather wants to do.

I don't know if Mayweather is going to be a "better" person because of his prison sentence; frankly, no one does. The only one who can tell you that is Mayweather. Of course, he can't even tell you that. It is something you have to show people in your actions.

But looking at things strictly from a sports and boxing perspective, Mayweather may have gotten the jolt of energy that he needed.

Mayweather has never taken a fight off. When he knows who his opponent is, he goes all-in during training and it shows in his matches; it is why he holds a perfect 43-0 record and has never really been tested.

At some point, though, complacency can set in. Not to say that Mayweather was in danger of losing to anyone soon—we don't even know who his next opponent will be—but dominance and greatness are two things that can lead someone like him to get bored.

Here Mayweather is now, after two months in prison, with a chance to turn his life around. If ever there was a time for him to start fresh, this would be it. He won't ever be a humble or gracious athlete, so don't expect him to start cutting promos without vulgarities.

Instead, look for Mayweather to, in his own way, be more appreciative to what the sport has given him and what he can do as he approaches the twilight of his career.

This could just be wishful thinking because we all want to see Mayweather in the boxing ring as much as possible because he makes the sport more interesting. I hope to be wrong about that, but only time will tell.

After two months where he had nothing but time, Mayweather should be looking to begin his life and career anew.
