Sergio Martinez Hires Armed Guards to Protect Him Until Sept. 15
Aug 30th 2012, 03:35

On September 15, Sergio Martinez will be facing off against WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., in what promises to be one of the most exciting fights this year.

Sergio Martinez has recently hired armed guards to help defend him after he recently had to cancel one of his open workouts due to threats made to his safety.

Dan Rafael recently posted on Twitter about Sergio's hiring.

Spoke with @SampsonBoxing tonight & he said @maravillabox now has a 24-hour armed security detail in place after the recent threats. #boxing

If you don't know what's happening, let me do a quick shakedown of what happened.

According to boxingscene.com, Sergio Martinez received threats from an unknown source and had his car vandalized right in front of his house. Because of this, Sergio Martinez had to suspend all open workouts and media days until a security team was properly in place.

So, with just a few weeks until the fight, tension continues to rise between the two sides that will no doubt erupt inside of the ring once the bell rings.

We can only hope that there's no more distractions for either side, because as the fight draws near, both fighters need to maintain 100 percent focus in their training.
