Sergio Martinez Forgets Manny Pacquiao, Calls Out Floyd Mayweather

Sergio Martinez made a huge name for himself in 2010 and he hopes to only build on that success during the New Year. Maravilla has big goals in 2011. He not only plans to become the #1 pound-for-pound boxer in the world, but he also plans to knockout Floyd Mayweather.

Martinez has accepted the fact that he’s just too big for Manny Pacquiao. However, he believes he can reach an agreement with Floyd Mayweather before quarter four of 2011.

“I’m ranked number two in the pound for pound, behind Pacquiao and ahead of Mayweather. My goal is to be number one and that has been my dream since I was an amateur. I have to box against one of them. With Pacquiao it will be difficult because he is so much smaller. He wants me to go under 154-pounds and for me that is impossible. With Mayweather, I believe that we can reach an agreement by the end of 2011 and I would love to fight him for the sport, and the purse, which I reckon would be around $15 million from the pay-per-view,” Martinez said according to Jhonny Gonzalez.

Martinez is much bigger than Manny Pacquiao, but why is he so quick to rule out a possible matchup between the two down the road? Could he be scared of Pacman? Who knows.

However, I will say that a 2011 fight between Floyd Mayweather and Sergio Martinez is the next best thing if we can’t get a Mayweather-Pacquiao showdown. But I know neither fight will ever happen because Money May knows a risk when he sees one. Then he runs away and hides in jail.
