Did Floyd Mayweather Really Lose Almost $3 Million on Alabama vs. Michigan?
Sep 2nd 2012, 06:04

Floyd “Money” Mayweather may have a lot less money if reports about him betting nearly $3 million on Michigan to cover the 14-point spread against Alabama are true. Michigan lost to Alabama 41-14, which means that Michigan did not even come close to covering the spread.

It was widely reported over the last few days (and originally tweeted by sportsbook.ag) by a variety of different news sources like the International Business Times that Floyd placed such a bet.

Apparently, to place a bet of that size Floyd had to spread the money around nine different casino sports books around Las Vegas.

Forbes Magazine recently named Floyd the highest-paid athlete in the world. He brought in a whopping $85 million over the last year in just two fights.

While the $3 million isn’t going to break him when he’s earning money like that, it is still pretty reckless. Continuing to place stupid bet like this could cause the man they call “Money” to go broke one day.

Floyd often tweets pictures of winning betting slips for huge sums, but I can’t remember him ever tweeting a losing one. I wonder how often “Money” is losing his bets and how much money he is throwing away.

I am sure Floyd will earn more the 10 times that amount the next time he steps in the ring, whether it be against Manny Pacquiao or not.

I think if I were Floyd I would only bet on myself. With 43 wins and no defeats he’s about as close to a sure thing that you will ever see.
