Manny Pacquiao: Could He Be Leaving Top Rank to Work with Al Haymon?
Sep 2nd 2012, 14:31

According to a tweet from the account of respected sports writer Lance Pugmire of the LA Times, Manny Pacquiao has recently been engaged in talks with the infamous Al Haymon.

Insider tells me Mayweather's manager Al Haymon has reached out personally to ‪@MannyPacquiao. Doesn't mean fight happens in Dec., but ...

Haymon is the advisor to many of the top fighters in the sport of boxing, including Andre Berto, Adrian Broner, Danny Garcia and, most notably, Floyd “Money” Mayweather.

Haymon, who started his career as a concert promoter, has quietly become one of the most powerful men in the sport. Not often photographed, Haymon’s right-hand man Sam Watson is often mistaken for the mysterious Oz-like man pulling the strings behind the scenes.

Talks between Haymon and Pacquiao could indicate a lot of different things. It could signify that the fight that the entire world has been waiting for between Mayweather and Pacquiao is that much closer to happening.

It could also indicate that Pacquiao is looking to leave promotional juggernaut Top Rank and Bob Arum. Pacquiao had previously tried to leave Top Rank and jump ship to Golden Boy Promotions, a company with which many of Haymon’s clients work.

There is no way to tell exactly what talks between Haymon and the Filipino superstar will mean for the sport of boxing at this point. All I know at this point is that it is now early September and there has still been no announcement of a date or an opponent for Pacquiao's next fight.
