Floyd Mayweather Fight Start Time: Essential Info for 2013's Biggest Fight
May 5th 2013, 01:13

When Floyd “Money” Mayweather (43-0) finally squares off against Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero (31-1-1) tonight at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, the anticipation surrounding the bout will be through the roof.

This marquee bout is shaping up to be one of the best in 2013.

Not only are the WBC and vacant The Ring Welterweight Championships being contested in this bout, Mayweather once again puts his undefeated streak on the line against a fighter in Guerrero that has made a career of upsetting the odds.

Boxing fans—hardcore and casual alike—will have a vested interest in this bout, and no one wants to miss a second of the incredible in-ring action.

Where: MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas

When: Saturday, May 4, at 10:30 p.m. ET

Watch: Pay-Per-View for $59.95

Live Stream: Showtime Anytime

Mayweather's Biggest Advantage

Despite being 36 years old, undefeated champion Floyd Mayweather is still one of the fastest boxers in the sport and will have the definitive edge in this matchup with faster hands and smoother feet.

Guerrero is a methodical fighter that moves at his own speed, but as seen in his previous bout against Andre Berto, he knows how to pick up the pace and bring the action toward his opponent.

That’s where Money’s raw speed comes into play.

When Guerrero unleashes his attacks on Mayweather, Money will be able to use the speed of his counterpunches to punish him for the aggressive nature of his game plan. That would force The Ghost to move back outside where Mayweather’s power can be felt at full force.

Guerrero's Biggest Advantage

While Guerrero lacks the elite speed that Mayweather possesses, he offers the power that could give his opponent all he can handle. As we saw in Money’s last fight against Miguel Cotto, a fighter who gets inside and uses his power against Mayweather can be a serious problem.

Mayweather is one of the best defensive fighters the sport has ever seen, but one powerful shot from Guerrero at point-blank range could stun the undefeated fighter long enough to give The Ghost a window of opportunity.

Guerrero has a tendency of fighting flatfooted, but as long as he sticks to the same game plan he used against Berto and bring the fight to Mayweather by keeping it inside when possible, there is no doubt that The Ghost has the power advantage and could use it to steal a win.

Main Event Prediction: Mayweather Wins via Unanimous Decision

On paper, this isn’t the sexiest matchup Mayweather could have taken on, but this bout won’t be fought on paper. Guerrero is looking to make a name for himself and will attempt to make his impact on the sport by taking down the undefeated champion.

All the trash-talk and preparation is over; it’s time to fight.

As much respect as Guerrero has gained for beating Berto and earning this fight, Mayweather is in a class all to himself. While The Ghost may have the edge in power, Money has the edge in almost every other facet of this matchup.

The only conceivable way Mayweather loses this fight is if he gets too confident and starts making mistakes, but judging from his previous 43 fights, that shouldn’t be an issue.
