Mayweather vs Guerrero: Latest Chatter Heading into Weigh-in
May 3rd 2013, 11:00

The big fight between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Robert Guerrero is just a few days away and there's a lot to talk about.

Mayweather—who puts his perfect 43-0 record to the test—will fight Guerrero (31-1-1) on May 4 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Plenty has happened before the fight so let's get to it.

Robert Guerrero's Father Lashes Out at Mayweather

Ruben Guerrero—Robert's father—has perhaps created the most fireworks leading up to the fight. In a profanity-laced tirade, he called Mayweather a "woman beater"—referring to the domestic abuse charges that sent Mayweather to jail. He said that Mayweather wasn't man enough to face his son.

To his credit, Mayweather didn't fire back at Guerrero at the press conference. Instead, he noted, "I said a prayer for him. I have to keep my composure, " via the New York Daily News.

Mayweather has also expressed a desire to keep his father, Floyd Sr., out of the picture.

Mayweather said, via the New York Daily News report:

When I was young you saw the wild Floyd Mayweather. I’m a lot older now. My kids are teenagers. I can’t be conducting myself in a disorderly fashion. It’s OK to trash talk sometimes to give the people excitement. But there’s a time and a place for everything.

Mayweather taking the high road? I hope he's feeling OK before the fight...

Keep Your Hands to Yourself

You may remember that Mayweather grabbed Victor Ortiz by the throat at the weigh-in before their fight in September 2011. Well, if he lays his hands on Guerrero at the weigh-in, don't expect Guerrero to go gently into that good night.

Guerrero recently said that if Mayweather touches him during the weigh-in, he's throwing.

I don't know if Mayweather even wants to test Guerrero's limits before the fight. He's seemed like a more mature, calm Mayweather lately. Then again, he is an entertainer. I don't exactly expect him to be quiet at the weigh-in, either.

Both Fighters On Pace to Make Weight

In preliminary weigh-ins, Mayweather and Guerrero looked to be on pace to make weight on Friday.

Mayweather weighed in at 148.5 points on April 26, per BoxingScene.com. Guerrero weighed in at 153 pounds on April 27. The weigh-in limit on those respective days was 154 pounds.

The limit for the official weigh-in on Friday is 147 pounds. Mayweather has never had trouble making weight, while Guerrero has set himself up to be in good shape.

Obviously, it makes sense. Mayweather wants to show he's ready after a year-long layoff, while Guerrero wants to show he's a worthy challenger to Mayweather. It's only natural that both fighters would be conscious about their weight leading up to the big fight.
