Now that Floyd Mayweather Jr. is out of jail, we can start talking about a potential showdown with Manny Pacquiao again.
I know, I'm sure you're all dying to talk about the possibility of a bout between the two (as if you haven't heard enough).
Still, there may be an unlikely hero who bridges the gap between Mayweather and Pacquiao's camps.
His name is 50 Cent, the multi-million-dollar rapper who just so happens to be Mayweather's friend and new promoter.
You see, Pacquiao's promoter, Bob Arum, never really got along with Mayweather's former promoters, Oscar De La Hoya and Richard Schaefer. Case in point: a bout between Mayweather and Pacquiao still hasn't been scheduled after all these years, despite constant "negotiations."
One thing we know about Arum is that he has no beef with 50 Cent...at least not right now. Hey, it's a start. A new start, at that.
Pacquiao reached out to Floyd Mayweather Sr. when Mayweather was doing time at the Clark County Detention Center, per BoxingInsider.com. Arum has also said he's "optimistic" about the two fighting in April 2013, per BoxingScene.com.
Leave it to 50 Cent to be the peacemaker.
Yes, I know it's ironic, I know it's mind-boggling, I know it's hard to picture Arum and 50 Cent sitting across from each other during negotiations.
But the very fact that De La Hoya and Schaefer are out of the picture may be what is needed for this superfight to finally happen. For whatever reason, Arum and Golden Boy Promotions didn't get along—a third party was obviously necessary.
Maybe when this whole mess is over Arum, Pacquiao, 50 Cent and Mayweather will do a rap together. It would be more believable than the time it has taken to get a deal done.
