If I could sent Curtis Jackson (also known as 50 Cent) an e-mail about Floyd Mayweather and The Money Team, the following is an exact transcript of what I would want it to say:
Dear Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson,
I’m Bryan Kalbrosky, and I’m contacting you as a sportswriter from the website Bleacher Report. More than that, I’m contacting you as a fan of sports. I believe in you and the power that you have recently acquired. I believe that you will be the one to deliver us a fight between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao.
Last month a column in Business Insider informed me that you had become a licensed boxing promoter in the state of New York under the promotion company that you created called The Money Team.
Your endeavors speak for themselves: Your most notable album Get Rich or Die Tryin’ (2003) has been certified platinum eight times and you founded G-Unit Records. You starred in an autobiographical movie about your life entitled Get Rich or Die Tryin’ (2005) and numerous other films including a starring role alongside Al Pacino and Robert De Niro in Righteous Kill (2008). Since then, you’ve won 13 Billboard Music Awards, three BET Awards, a Grammy and 83 of the 135 awards that you’ve been nominated for.
Never satisfied with your own limits, you’ve started a clothing company and shoe line with Marc Ecko, you’ve created video games, you’ve written a novel, you started your own reality television show, and you’ve created a headphones company called SMS Audio. You’ve even had admirable philanthropic aspirations to bring serious food aid in Africa by 2016.
Yet like many others around the world, there’s still work for you to get done as a businessman and individual.
A week after you started TMT Promotions, you were able to sign and secure close friend Floyd Mayweather, Jr. to your team. Soon after that, you stated aspirations to take over the MMA for box office success. More so, you expressed interest in changing the future of the boxing world.
You’ve already added Yuri Gamboa and Andre Dirrell to your team. And after the feud that was engaged with Oscar de la Hoya and his company on Twitter, I say with utter confidence that yours can overpass his company (Golden Boy Promotions) as well as Bob Arum’s Top Rank Promotions in one simple move. I also fully believe that this is one you’d be able to complete.
All you have to do is get your client, Floyd Mayweather, into a ring with Manny Pacquiao.
You’re from Jamaica, Queens in New York City and now own the legal responsibility of being able to promote a fight at Madison Square Garden.
Is there a better place in the world for you to get this fight to happen? I certainly don’t think so. New York avoids the gambling hub that a controversial Las Vegas fight may bring, and with all of the trouble that other promoters have had in the past to get the two together, it would be best to avoid as much of this type of an issue as humanly possible.
Attack the monopoly and destroy the hierarchy that the boxing world currently has in place.
To this point, both Golden Boy Promotions and Top Rank Promotions have been utterly ineffective in making the one fight that we want to see (Mayweather v. Pacquiao) happen. Fans are rapidly jumping ship and watching MMA at the UFC and worldwide interest in boxing is diminishing more and more.
By leaving Golden Boy Promotions and signing with you, Mayweather indicates that he believes in where you can take the future of his brand.
“We don’t know what the future holds, but he is getting involved with boxing,” Mayweather said of you. “He would bring a lot to the table. We believe there’s enough to go around, he’s not just my friend, he’s not just my best friend, he’s one of my business partners and one of the smartest guys I know.”
As you told Power 106 Radio, “I believe I can. I believe that I’m a big reason why the possibility [of a fight] is coming closer. We are in communications, so hopefully we can get this show going.”
Golden Boy wanted more money for the fight. You may represent The Money Team, but you now have an obligation to make this fight happen.
Mayweather is out of jail and his dad said that he is a better man because of the experience that he had behind bars. But one of the first things that Mayweather said was about Pacquiao.
“I think Pacquiao is an unbelievable fighter and hopefully we can make the fight in the future,” Mayweather said. Many believe that you’re the sole person that can make his wish come true.
Even Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum is now on your side and is confident that he can make the fight happen next year.
"[50 Cent] appears to me to be a real businessman with no agenda like some of the other guys so I think we can get a deal done," Arum said.
Sports Illustrated Reports that the fight could be held in April of 2013.
"I think that Floyd and 50 coming together is great for boxing," CEO of Mayweather Promotions told ESPN.com. "You have two smart guys and when great minds work together, you can have nothing but great results."
The most ultimate great result: a fight between Mayweather and Pacquiao. The world is waiting and we believe in you, Mr. Jackson. We've waited too long.
Best,
Bryan Kalbrosky
