Ricky Hatton's Possible Comeback Is Much More Than a Rumor
Aug 20th 2012, 19:57

Speculation that Ricky Hatton will once again enter the ring has been circling the web for some time now.

Most people thought that he was on his way back to boxing based on his recent pictures, in which he looked slimmed-down and in shape. Apparently, this prediction was more right than wrong, as in early July, The Manchester Evening News had reported that he is indeed pondering the idea and had talked it over with his family:

“MEN Sport can confirm Hatton, who has a massive following in Manchester, has spoken with those close to him about the possibility of a comeback. He said it would take mega money to convince him to fight for the first time since his brutal second-round knockout by Manny Pacquiao in May 2009.”

As a matter of fact, even Paulie Malignaggi had recently mentioned that he heard of such a rumor. But how realistic is it? What is the probability that Hatton will be back in the ring again?

As Hatton himself said, if the money is right, the discussions may start. I do not foresee any issues as far as finances go, since the British fans love Hatton would pay PPV fees as well as buy out all available tickets in no-time. The question is, who do you bring Hatton back against?

Paulie Malignaggi would be a good option, but at this point in time may not work out. Maybe he can start off by coming back and facing someone along the lines of Victor Ortiz or Andre Berto?

I don’t know about you, but I not only respect Hatton for his boxing career, I also think that he is the kind of fighter who would take a comeback seriously—and be more successful than most think he would be.

With this report as well as pictures serving as the icing on the cake as far as Hatton’s comeback rumors go, I believe that an exciting announcement will be made very soon. As a matter of fact, according to The Manchaster Evening News article, Hatton was supposed to make a big announcement about his comeback last week, but it for unknown reasons it has been delayed until sometime this week.
