Adamek vs Walker: Keys to Victory for Both Fighters in Heavyweight Collision
Sep 8th 2012, 15:27

When Tomasz Adamek and Travis Walker meet in the ring, there won't be any titles on the line but the winner will have a serious inside track on fighting Vitali Klitschko for the WBC heavyweight title.

Adamek continues on the comeback trail after suffering a tought tenth round TKO loss to Klitschko nearly a year ago. Adamek has pushed his record to 46-2 after picking up consecutive decision victories over Nagy Aguilera and Eddie Chambers earlier this year.

Walker will look to capitalize on what is a massive opportunity for him as the 39-7-1 journeyman is coming off of a loss to Kubrat Pulev for the IBF International Heavyweight championship and is 4-1 in his last five fights.

For Adamek, a win means that he continues to remain on pace to earn his rematch with Klitschko. For Walker, a win would be the career-defining. Here's what each fighter will need to do to prevail in this bout.

Keys for Adamek

Tomasz Adamek is the heavy favorite in this fight (-600 according to Bovada.lv).

Adamek holds the advantage in nearly every facet of the fight. His hand speed should be a big advantage and he is the much more technical boxer. Utilizing his advantages and keeping his distance early should allow him to slowly pick apart Walker.

Adamek is a bit smaller than Walker at 6'1" and 222 pounds. He'll need to use his speed to move in and out of the action. Walker's power is legitimate and with so many advantages, the longer the fight goes the more the advantage swings into Adamek's favor.

In short, Adamek simply needs to be patient and establish a pattern of sticking and moving to wear out Walker for a decision or late stoppage.

Keys for Walker

Walker really has nothing to lose in this fight and that should factor into his gameplan.

He's the much bigger fighter at 6'5" 235 pounds and boasts an impressive 82" reach but his best strategy will be to look to close the distance as much as possible.

Stamina has been an issue for Walker in the past and the majority of the wins in his career have come within the first four rounds so the earlier he can do damage the better. Walker will need to play the role of a bully if he wants to pull off the upset.

If Walker tries to utilize his jab and keep the distance, he doesn't stand much of a chance. He'll need to turn this into a brawl and hope for an early finish if he wants to shock the boxing world.
