Amir Khan will return to the ring with a new trainer in December. His opponent, the undefeated, but undersized Carlos Molina, seems like he was carefully chosen for his lack of punching power.
In many ways, it's the perfect first fight for Khan and new trainer Virgil Hunter—an undefeated fighter who doesn't have the skill-set necessary to trouble him too much.
But if all goes well against Molina, Khan has no problem jumping back into the deep water for his next bout.
"I wouldn't say no to it," Khan told BoxingScene.com's Edward Chaykovsky about fighting Ricky Hatton in his next fight.
Hatton, who came out of retirement last week, will face former WBA welterweight champion Vyacheslav Senchenko on November 24th.
This will be no easy task, and Hatton deserves credit for taking such a tough fight after not having stepped into the ring in over three years.
On the flip side, many have been critical of Khan's choice of Molina, but after losing two straight fights against men he was supposed to beat, it's probably not a bad idea for him to take it slow in his comeback.
For his part, Khan disputes that Molina will be an easy challenge and says he was chosen for his difficulty.
“I could have picked an easy fight but I’m going to have a tough one next because I want to bring the world titles back to Britain," Khan told BoxingScene.com.
Many will view this as false bravado, as Molina has never fought above lightweight and doesn't hold a win over a fighter of significance.
But if both Khan and Hatton are victorious, the storylines for a potential all-Brit superfight are already in place. And it would sure be fun to watch.
