Andrien Broner: Next Fight Will Be Against Antonio DeMarco Nov. 17

Adrien Broner (24-0 20KOs), Golden Boy Promotions and HBO seemed to have found an opponent they can all agree on. Broner will be facing WBC lightweight champion Antonio DeMarco (28-2-1 21KOs) on November 17, according to Felipe Leon of fightnews.com

HBO had originally planned to have Broner fight in October but they could not come to an agreement on an opponent for the 23-year-old fighter.

Broner, the undefeated former WBO super featherweight champion, lost his title on the scale in July when he failed to make weight. The fight, which was in danger of being canceled when Broner came in 3.5 pounds over the division limit, went on with Broner paying a large sum of his purse to his opponent.

The fight with DeMarco will be Broner’s first in the lightweight division.

DeMarco, in his most recent fight, scored a first-round knockout over John Molina Jr. September 8, on the undercard of the HBO broadcast, Andre Ward versus Chad Dawson WBC super middleweight title fight.

DeMarco, who is currently rated No.1 by Ring Magazine in the lightweight division, will be the toughest fight of Broner’s career on paper. The fight will certainly be a step up in class for the brash Cincinnati fighter who has been often criticized in the past for not fighting the best fighters that his division had to offer.

A matchup with Broner should net the formerly homeless fighter from Los Mochis, Mexico, now fighting out of Tijuana, DeMarco, the largest payday of his career.

Broner’s Golden Boy Promotions stable mate, heavyweight prospect Seth “Mayhem” Mitchell (25-0-1 19KOs) will also be in action on HBO that night against Jonathan Banks (28-1-1 18KOs).
