Boxing: Legendary Trainer Emanuel Steward Battling Cancer
Sep 20th 2012, 18:29

According to various reports today, International Boxing Hall of Fame trainer Emanuel Steward has been diagnosed with cancer.

The reports, first broken by BoxingScene.com and the Canadian newspaper Le Journal de Quebec, do not indicate what type of cancer Steward is battling, but they do say he will continue his normal training duties for the time being.

Steward is currently training super middleweight prospect Adonis Stevenson for his October 12th bout against Donovan George. The newspaper cites Yvon Michel, Stevenson's promoter, as confirming the diagnosis.

Steward, 68, has been an extremely well-known trainer in the sport of boxing for decades. His list of clients is itself legendary and includes names such as Tommy Hearns, Lennox Lewis, Oscar de la Hoya and Wladimir Klitschko.

He has been recently absent on high-profile HBO broadcasts due to health issues that were not elaborated on at the time.

More on this story as it continues to develop.
