Dennis Laurente Takes Dominating Round 1 TKO over Jamed Jalarante Sep 29th 2012, 19:02 Filipino welterweight star Dennis Laurente (42-4-5 23 KO) left many of his fans either amazed or confused with his lightning-fast dismantling of Indonesian fighter Jamed Jalarante (20-14-1 9 KO) on Saturday, September 29, at the Flash Elorde Grand Ballroom. Laurente and Jalarante's bout headlined the main event of an eight-card fundraising event against substance abuse. Fellow local star Juan Martin Elorde also participated in one of the undercards. The 35-year-old Laurente was a heavy favorite coming into the bout, riding an 18-fight winning streak and not having lost a fight since July of 2006. Laurente is also a familiar face to the American boxing crowd, having fought in Manny Pacquiao's undercards in Las Vegas, Nevada, in both 2010 and 2011 against Rashad Holloway and Ayi Bruce respectively. Jalarante came into the bout riding a seven-fight losing streak, the worst losing streak of his entire career. The Indonesian is also no stranger to international trekking as he has made his way to Australia, Japan, China, Thailand and now the Philippines for his competitions. The night began with the crowd in full roar for their hometown hero, all decked out in red sequins and the rest of the colors of the Philippine flag. Jalarante went with a quieter entrance, sporting a blue satin robe as he was led out by the Indonesian flag. Upon the fighters touching gloves, Jalarante looked for a slow start to the match, throwing out measuring jabs to get a feel for his opponent. Laurente had different plans and jumped straight into the action. The Filipino champion led his opponent towards the ropes and unleashed a slew of shots to the body, forcing the Indonesian to retreat into a corner.   At this point, Laurente wasted no time in bombarding Jalarante, letting go of a savage storm of punches that struck the Indonesian down after being hit by several blows. Jalarante was curled up on the corner floor when the referee began to administer the 10 count. Though Jalarante was able sit himself upright, he couldn't seem to find his legs and sat out for the knockout, giving Laurente the win in a mere 37 seconds into the fight. The win marks Laurente's second fight in 2012 and is a testament to how much of a threat this consistent veteran fighter remains to be.
