It looks like Manny Pacquiao will be fighting Juan Manuel Marquez for a fourth time. The fight is scheduled to take place December 8 in Mexico City.
This afternoon respected boxing writer Steve Kim of maxboxing.com retweeted the following:
“@TheBoxingChat @stevemaxboxing Mexican boxing reporter from TV Azteca just tweeted that Roach confirmed to him MP vs JMM 4 Dec 8 in Mexico City.”

The fight between the two future Hall of Fame fighters shouldn’t come as a big shock to boxing fans as there has been speculation since June that a fourth showdown was being planned.
What is shocking is the supposed location. According to reports from ESPN’s Dan Rafael, the fight was originally going to take place at the MGM Grand, where Pacquiao’s promoter Top Rank made a reservation.
A fight in Mexico City, depending on the location, could have much a larger live attendance than the 17,000 people that the MGM Grand Garden Arena could hold.
In 1993, Julio Cesar Chavez Sr. took on Greg Haugen in front of more than 130,000 people at Azteca Stadium in Mexico City.
A fight between Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez in that gigantic stadium would probably do similar numbers. But with the fight scheduled for December, when the average temperature range could range between 44-66 degrees Fahrenheit, it’s highly unlikely they could stage it outdoors.
The most likely venue would be the newly opened Mexico City Arena that hosted Juan Manuel Marquez’s most recent fight—a win over Sergey Fedchenko in April.
