With Manny Pacquiao telling ESPN's "First Take" (per ESPN.com) that he is up for giving Floyd Mayweather a 55-45 split of the possible megafight's revenue Thursday, the big news still doesn't mean the fight the world has been waiting for will happen.
First off there have been a few times where it looked like a Mayweather-Pacquiao showdown would happen, only to have a new roadblock appear.
Right now, Mayweather may have to deal with legal troubles again, as he was reportedly in a "verbal confrontation" with the mother of his daughter on September 9 (per Las Vegas Review-Journal).
If this confrontation is found to be in violation of "Money's" probation, the five-division champ could find himself behind bars yet again.
Before "Pac-Man" said he would give up bigger share of the fights possible revenue, an April 2013 date was being thrown about by Top Rank promoter, Bob Arum (per BoxingScene.com).
If Mayweather (43-0, 26 KOs) goes back to jail anytime soon, an April date would be in limbo, as there would be to much interruption in Mayweather's normal day-to-day life to even think about training for the fight of his career.
Then there is the question if "Money" is still motivated to fight after spending his two-month jail stay in solitary confinement.
In an interview with FightHype.com, Mayweather explained that his mind is not on his boxing career at the moment, but rather on the careers of the fighters under his Mayweather Promotions.
Mayweather told FightHype.com:
As of right now, my mind is not on my boxing career. My mind is on Mayweather Promotions. I'm focused on all of my fighters. We're building a dream team. We got Caballero, Gamboa, Dirrell, Billy Dib, J'Leon Love and Ishe Smith.
If Mayweather's mind is not on boxing now, another jail stint could push boxing further from "Money's" mind, making a possible Pacquiao (54-4-2, 38 KOs) fight as much of a fantasy has it has been over the past few years.
Mayweather seems to be fine if a Pacquiao fight never comes to fruition saying, "I wish Manny Pacquiao nothing but the best. If the fight never happens, then that's how life is sometimes, but I don't wish nothing bad on nobody after what I went through."
The two-month in solitary confinement may have hurt Mayweather psychologically more than people might think. If that is the case, the statement by Pacquiao saying he'd agree to give "Money" the bigger share of profits and partake in strict drug testing will mean nothing if Mayweather's mind is not in the right place to fight.
