Earlier today, the participants in Saturday’s massive boxing card from the newly-opened Barclay’s Center in Brooklyn hit the scales.
Devon Alexander (23-1, 13 KOs) out of St. Louis and IBF welterweight titleholder Randall Bailey (43-7, 37 KOs) of Miami weighed in for their fight at 146.8 lbs and 147 lbs, respectively.
Peter Quillin (27-0, 20 KOs) of Brooklyn and WBO middleweight titleholder Hassan N’Dam N’Jikam (27-0, 17 KOs) of France weighed in at 159.2 lbs and 159 lbs for their title bout.
Mexico’s Pablo Cesar Cano (25-1-1, 19 KOs) missed weight in his initial attempt, coming in at 148.4 lbs, which is 1.4 over the welterweight limit. WBA titleholder Paulie Malignaggi (31-4, 7 KOs) came in at 146.2 lbs. Cano has one hour to lose the weight or the title will no longer be on the line.
Erik Morales (52-8, 36 KOs) weighed in at 139.2 lbs after working out this morning to cut the final pounds to make the 140-lb junior welterweight limit. Danny Garcia (24-0, 15 KOs), the WBA and WBC champion, weighed in at 139.8 lbs.
Garcia and Morales had engaged in a heated verbal exchange during the post-weigh-in staredown. Garcia is no doubt upset that Morales tested positive for a banned substance prior to their fight (h/t USA Today).
According to Steve Farhood, as of now, the titles will still be on the line in the Garcia vs. Morales matchup, contrary to earlier reports.
The fights will be broadcast by Showtime starting at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT.
