The Oct. 20 debut for boxing at the Barclays Center, promoted by Golden Boy, drew 11,869 patrons, 9,635 of them purchased tickets, and the gate was approximately $1 million, according to a reputable source. There was talk in the two weeks prior that a card topped by a Philly fighter, junior welter champ Danny Garcia, against a Mexican, Erik Morales, wasn't drawing buzz at the ticket window. The promoter did offer discounts and some promotional freebies to ensure a beefier turnout.
