Friday night, right about during the Lakers vs. Clippers game, the Twitter universe was trending such trends worldwide as: #Lakers, #MikeBrown, #BlakeGriffin, as one NBA fan would imagine so.
But as the NBA game went on other trends started trending as well such as #Floyd and #50andFloyd, because the once best-friend bromance of the undefeated American boxing pound-for-pound super star, Floyd Mayweather and once rap star now boxing promoter, 50 Cent started talking trash about one another with numerous diss insult tweets going back and forth about each other's careers and personalities.
Recently, 50 Cent took to his Twitter to announce that his one time partnership with Mayweather in The Money Team promotions is no longer happening and that he will be going forward with his own fight promotions company, SMS Promotions, in which he has contracts with Gamboa, Dib and Dirrell.
Many fight fans began to take sides and begin to speculate just what exactly went down between Floyd and 50 Cent to end their business partnership and even friendship.
Then the Twitter beef began to escalate on to a whole new level when Friday night both 50 Cent (who has over 8 million followers) and Mayweather ( who has over 3 million followers) started to diss one another via Twitter.
50 Cent began Tweeting that his fighter Gamboa wants to fight Mayweather and that he would even put in 20 million dollars for the winner of that fight, but implied that Floyd would not fight and would pull out of that fight.
50 Cent started posting pictures of his old The Money Team jacket on his Instagram even joking that he will sell it for a $1.00 and that it only looked good because he was wearing it.
50 Cent even began to criticize Floyd's lifestyle on how he felt he was spending money on women who don't love him, but love his money.
But the biggest diss that 50 Cent made against Mayweather that pertains the most to actual boxing fans is when he Tweeted:
50cent @50cent
I can't hang out with Floyd no more,I'm tired of running from manny pacquiao #smsAudio
This Tweet quickly got over 6,000 Retweets and over 1,000 Favorites in a matter of minutes, which may indicate that the general public is indeed viewing Mayweather as ducking Pacquiao.
Floyd, having an equal if not bigger ego than 50 Cent, of course had a ton of retaliation of his own as he began to diss 50 Cent for his lack of success in his music career from declining record sales to even asking other rap stars such as Rick Ross, Kanye West, Lil Wayne and Drake to help him out with his declining music career.
Floyd even posted pics via his Instagram of Dr. Dre saying he had the best ear phones, and went on to call 50 Cent a boxing groupie who held his belts for him, and even posted a chart of 50 Cent's music album sales declining from his debut to his most current album.
Floyd even gave his own meaning for what SMS stood for from:
Floyd Mayweather @FloydMayweather
SMS = Similar Mayweather Show
Expand 2h Floyd Mayweather @FloydMayweather
SMS = Sisters Managing Sports
Expand 2h Floyd Mayweather @FloydMayweather
SMS = Snakes Maneuver Slick
So after both former celebrity bros Tweeted about 2 hours worth of diss Tweets back and forth many fight fans started voicing their own opinion on what was really going on.
Some fans feel the beef was not actually authentic and that it may be a publicity stunt of some sort.
As a fight fan, do we really care if the beef is real or not, especially if it does not do anything to give us the fights we want to see happen?
I, just like many fight fans, had very high hopes for Yuriorkis Gamboa; he was one of those very few younger fighters who had what it took to really make some waves in the sport of boxing. He is a beast in the ring and has convincingly beaten if not destroyed all of his opponents.
If 50 Cent is indeed looking out for Gamboa's best interests or at least going to get him back in the ring and against the top elite guys that we want to see him fight, then that is fine.
Andre Dirrell too is one talented super middleweight who has incredible speed combined with great technical skills. If Dirrell regained his confidence and heart and was fully focused, he could even give Andre Ward a run for his money.
Will 50 Cent be a good promoter and actually make these two good fighters into the stars that they should already be right now?
That is a question that a true fight fan would want to know or at least see promise in the Tweets of their new promoter 50 Cent.
My personal take on the 50 Cent and Mayweather beef is that there is definitely some publicity stunt objective behind it all.
50 Cent's whole career and style is to create beef to get the public to notice him.
In fact he got started by making mixtapes dissing everyone who was a big rap star when he was virtually unknown, and guess what? It worked.
All the rappers who he dissed took notice and so did the fans and he began doing collaboration songs with the very same rappers who he started out dissing to make a name for himself.
Ironically, 50 Cent's best lyrical work was on his mixtapes before he blew up; you can see how his hunger kept him focused and on point.
The more famous he got and with each new album, his lyrics became weaker and weaker.
This same metaphor often happens in boxing when an upcoming fighter is hungry as hell when they are climbing their way up to the top, but once they become famous and start living the good life, they begin to lose their work ethic in the gym and even in the ring.
What is the ultimate goal of this break up between 50 Cent and Mayweather? That still remains to be seen. Obviously the fans want to see their favorite fighters in the best fights out there. This of course includes the inevitable biggest fight of our lifetime of Manny Pacquiao vs. Floyd Mayweather.
Some fight fans even began to wonder is there is some back door entry hidden agenda plan behind all this to some how make the Pacquiao vs. Mayweather fight finally happen.
I say if it can give us the Pacquiao vs. Mayweather fight once and for all so it can finally happen and so we can all shut up about it and move on, then let 50 Cent and Mayweather both start making new diss rap songs about one another.
We'll even listen to those diss songs (which will probably be god-awful by the way) if it can get us the Pacquiao vs. Mayweather fight once and for all.
