Amir Khan: Where Will His Career Take Him After the Fight with Carlos Molina?
Dec 13th 2012, 01:44

Yesterday I wrote about how Saturday is a must win for former light welterweight champion Amir Khan, noting that he must defeat Carlos Molina to advance his career.

Today, I will tell you what I think his next steps will be after this weekend's matchup.

Here is what I think could happen if Khan wins on Saturday:

Amir Khan has stated time and again that he wants one more win in the light welterweight division before moving up in weight class.

If he defeats Carlos Molina, he will most definitely move up to the welterweight division. The only question from there is who will he fight?

Before scheduling the cancelled rematch with Lamont Peterson, Khan wanted to fight the current WBO Welterweight Champion Timothy Bradley.

If Bradley doesn't get back in the ring with Manny Pacquiao, this fight may finally happen.

Speaking of Manny Pacquiao, he is also a possible future opponent for Khan. Pacquiao just lost to Juan Manuel Marquez.

With the prospect of a Pacquiao/Mayweather super fight looking more and more in doubt, this is a very viable option for both fighters.

Khan has also stated that he wants to fight Floyd Mayweather. No one is sure if that will happen but I feel that would be a very entertaining bout to watch.

The very slim list of potential opponents also may include Miguel Cotto, Juan Manuel Marquez and perhaps Brandon Rios.

Should Amir Khan lose on Saturday he doesn't have as many options.

His best immediate option would be to get a rematch with Carlos Molina. I can also see possible rematches with either Danny Garcia or Lamont Peterson.

The only other thing I can see Khan doing if he loses is to move up in weight class anyway and get it over with.

For the moment, Khan is extremely focused on the task in front of him in Los Angeles. Afterwards, he will need focus on his future.
