This Saturday night, live from the L.A. Sports Arena, Amir Khan will look to get his career back on track against undefeated Carlos Molina. Khan suffered a TKO defeat at the hands of fast-rising Danny Garcia in his last fight and is looking to rebound with a win in this one.
So let's break this one down.
Admittedly, I am not too familiar with Carlos Molina, but from the limited tape I've seen on him, he looks to be a solid boxer that has a good jab and decent power. Molina's best chance is going to likely be to do what those who've defeated Khan have done: catch him with one big shot.
Disregarding Khan's highly controversial "defeat" to Lamont Peterson, an admitted steroid user, the two men who've beaten Amir Khan were without a doubt less skilled than Khan was but were able to hit him when he made a mistake.
Molina might not have the power of Briedis Prescott or Danny Garcia, but he's definitely got a shot. He needs to take his time and try to set Khan up.
For Amir Khan, he just has to be himself—but with some minor upgrades.
Khan definitely improved under Freddie Roach, but his defense still left something to be desired. Now with new trainer Virgil Hill, Khan should have solved his defensive woes. The question is—Will he?
Khan's one of the more physically gifted fighters that you'll ever see in terms of hand and foot speed, as well as raw, natural talent, but he gets overzealous and reacts poorly when he gets hurt. He tries to fight instead of hold, which was his downfall against Danny Garcia.
If Khan can refrain from lunging in and avoid getting hit with one huge punch, it's going to be easy work for the British star. Honestly, I don't think all the questions about Amir Khan will be answered in this fight. Look for him to win by a knockout in the mid-rounds.
Hopefully, he'll look vastly improved. Either way, he's one of the most exciting fighters out there, and with a win he'll launch himself right back into the conversation for some big fights.
