Donaire vs. Arce: Jorge Arce's Retirement Is Right Move After Loss Dec 16th 2012, 18:26 After a devastating third-round knockout loss to Nonito Donaire, Mexican boxing legend Jorge Arce will call it quits on his career after agreeing with his family not to fight again if he lost, according to HBO Sports: Jorge Arce says he promised his family he'd retire if he lost, but if he's going to go out on that note, at least it was to the best. — HBOboxing (@HBOboxing) December 16, 2012 Arce was one of the most exciting fighters of the last decade, and his many championships in multiple weight classes make him one of the best boxers to ever come out of Mexico. Add in an astounding 61 wins (46 knockouts and 15 decision victories), seven losses (four knockouts and three decision losses) and two draws, and Arce is a legitimate contender to be an eventual entrant into the Boxing Hall of Fame.   What It Means At 33 years old, Arce has been around the block already in his career, and now is the right time to listen to his family and walk away from the sport on his own accord. Despite the amount of titles Arce has held, another loss on his record proves that he is just moving backwards once again. Many felt that Arce’s career was rejuvenated after beating Wilfredo Vazquez, Jr., but Donaire thoroughly outclassed the veteran and proved he should step away from the sport.   What’s Next? While this win will catapult Donaire into the upper echelon of boxing stars, this must be the end of the road for Arce; his family must help him understand that coming out of retirement also doesn’t work. Arce is a pure fighter, and keeping him away from the sport will be tough. The veteran must look at the history of previous fighters that have returned after retirement and realize his life after boxing would be better without any more damage done.
