Floyd Mayweather: Robert Guerrero Matchup Smart Competitive Move for Money May
Dec 29th 2012, 17:55

Floyd Mayweather's reported potential matchup with Robert "The Ghost" Guerrero will give Money May his toughest possible competition available and make for an exciting bout.

Mayweather has been taking advantage of the public's growing interest in who he'll fight on May 4, but according to Rick Reeno of Boxing Scene, that candidate is Guerrero.

While Money May might be able to find a more attractive candidate for promotional purposes and selling tickets, there's no more worthy opponent and competitive assignment than The Ghost.

Guerrero has been making his way up the weight classes, debuting in welterweight earlier this year in a victory over then-undefeated Selcuk Aydin. He then wrapped up a breakout 2012 year by defeating two-time welterweight champion Andre Berto.

Although he possesses an insane reputation for training and preparation, Guerrero's best trait is his ability to adjust. He's one of the smartest boxers out there, and that's something that will clash with Money May.

There's no doubting Mayweather's physical presence and shape, but Money May excels by outsmarting his opponents and making adjustments just like The Ghost.

If Mayweather takes this fight, he's taking a heck of a challenge against a fighter that possesses a very similar skill set as himself.

Guerrero may be smart, but don't think that means he's bashful as well. He even took to Twitter to announce his intentions to fight the undisputed top active boxer on the market, although he expressed nothing had been reached as of yet.

To all the fans, no deal has been reached to fight Mayweather but I'm hoping I do get that opportunity to shock the world!God Bless Acts2:38

Although a huge pay day for fighting Money May would intrigue anyone to jump at the thought of fighting Mayweather, it's obvious that Guerrero thinks he can truly pull off a huge upset.

Pesky, small-framed fighters who can get in their opponents' heads are just the types of fighters that Money May struggles with. Combine that with The Ghost's 31-1-1 record with 18 KOs, and you have yourself an interesting dynamic.

With Manny Pacquiao receding in the boxing world and very few boxers asserting themselves as elite powers, Mayweather needs to take as many competitive matchups as he can before he becomes too old to add impressive wins to his resume.

Guerrero is a perfect option for Mayweather.
