With the over three-year hope of getting this era's two best fighters into the ring against each other to no avail, the sports world seems to almost given up on a Floyd Mayweather-Manny Pacquiao super-fight. Mayweather now claims that he offered $40 million to Pacquiao to fight and that he has video proof of the offer according to www.dailymail.co.uk.
Mayweather said:
I have footage of Manny Pacquiao talking about what I offered him. I offered him $40m and I told him to accept that and we could talk about the rest. The Proof is in the pudding. He received $6m against Timothy Bradley and $8m in this one (against Juan Manuel Marquez). What guy wouldn't want to be in a position to take a loss for $40m? He could have made a lot more fighting me.
Now that Pacquiao has suffered a brutal knockout loss to Marquez there is questions about if the eight-division champ will retire. If Pacquiao does continue to fight, why wouldn't he accept the rumored $40 million dollar payday to finally give the fans what they want to see?
Now coming off two-straight losses, Pacquiao is in no position to try to hold his ground and request a bigger payday in a possible fifth with Mayweather. The time is now for the biggest fight of the last decade to finally be made, event though Pacquiao has lost some of his lure in his last outing in the ring.
With Mayweather being said to have two fight dates in the 2013 (per ESPN.com), one on May 4th—presumably against Robert Guerrero—and the other planned for September, the world could finally get what he has wanted out of boxing, with the Mayweather-Pacquiao showdown being a possibility for a fall showdown next year.
