Manny Pacquiao Would Be Foolish to Retire When He's Still a Top Fighter
Dec 11th 2012, 15:32

Manny Pacquiao's loss to Juan Manuel Marquez on Saturday should not lead to his retirement from boxing, since the great fighter still has the ability to to compete with the world's best.

Pacman looked strong in the Marquez fight, especially in the early rounds. You could even say that he was winning up until the sixth round.

The knockout punch delivered by Marquez was an impressive strike, and Pacquiao just wasn't prepared for it.

People will look at some of his recent performances and make the determination that it's time for Pacquiao to step away from the ring and maybe focus on politics instead.

He has lost his last two fights, and the last bout he won (the third fight versus Marquez) was a narrow victory that had some controversy surrounding it.

His last three fights have been less than impressive, but there were enough positives from these matchups to suggest that Pacquiao should still continue to fight.

The best decision for Pacquiao would be to finally fight Floyd Mayweather as the last bout of his career.

He would be satisfying all boxing fans by setting up this fight, and it would be a fantastic way for both fighters to end their careers. A Mayweather-versus-Pacquiao fight with the winner ending his career on a high note would be unbelievable.

Mayweather has absolutely no excuse to refuse to step into the ring with Pacquiao after Saturday's fight, and even though Pacman would be going into a possible bout with Money May as the underdog, the emotion and intensity of the pre-fight buildup would give him the energy needed to go the full 12 rounds.

Despite the disappointing ending to the latest Marquez bout, Pacquiao proved that he can still fight with the best boxers on the planet.

There's no reason for him to retire right now. Pacquiao should fight two more times in his career, and hopefully one of them is against Mayweather.
