As the big showdown between Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez marches toward its Dec. 8 fight date, the boxing world is wondering how this fourth fight will play out.
With each of the three previous bouts being almost too close to call, Pacquiao (54-4-2, 38 KOs) has been awarded wins in two of the three. The other was a scored a draw, although may feel Marquez (54-6-1, 39 KOs) won that fight hands down.
There is no reason to believe the fourth (and hopefully last) fight between Pac-Man and Marquez will be any different from the trio of fights before.
Sure, one could say Pacquiao is said to look as focused as he has in a long time, or Pacquiao is looking for a knockout, so he will undoubtedly put out a better performance this time around. Well, history will suggest otherwise.
The only bout versus Marquez where Pacquiao's mental state was questioned was their last bout that took place in November of 2011. Pacquiao had various events in his life that were pulling his focus away from the ring, resulting in a far from convincing performance.
In the two previous fights with Marquez—the first in 2004 and the second in 2008—Pacquiao had no reason not to be as focused as possible. He still could not put together a performance that would warrant a clear decision in the eyes of most fans and analysts.
With this fourth bout being set up to try to clear up any questions that Pacquiao is indeed the better fighter, it will end up being a waste of time.
The same outcome as the previous three bouts is a high probability come Dec. 8, and nothing well be answered.
