Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez are beefing up for their fourth fight in eight years, and it promises to be just as exciting as the trilogy that preceded it.
In order to make the bout even more thrilling, many are going to be throwing wagers down on either a fighter’s money line or the over/under on the number of rounds in the MGM Grand, Las Vegas-based fight.
If you are currently on the fence about which way to lean in the contest, we’re here to help. Let’s take a look at the current lines and O/U, courtesy of Bovada.lv, and pick some winners.
Money Line
Manny Pacquiao -280
Juan Manuel Marquez +220
Smart Money: Pacquiao
It’s hard to back Pac-Man at an almost 3-to-1 favorite against an opponent that was arguably better in a majority of the previous matchups, but there is no way that Dinamita is stealing a victory on Dec. 8.
Pac-Man is looking to avenge a controversial decision against Timothy Bradley and will be likely bring out an all-out offensive attack against Marquez.
Marquez has arguably been the toughest opponent that Pacquiao has faced throughout his magnificent career. In fact, there are some that believe Marquez earned a few decisions in their three previous bouts and is the better fighter.
In order to silence those doubters and set himself up for a future matchup with Floyd Mayweather, Pacquiao must come up with a signature, unquestionable, unanimous victory in this one.
We expect he’ll have no problem finding the motivation, and the 33-year-old clearly has the skills to make it happen against his 39-year-old foe.
Over/Under
Over 10½ -270
Under 10½ +185
Smart Money: Over
There isn’t going to be a knockout in this fight, and the only way to lean is towards the over.
Again, at nearly 3-to-1, the payout might not be the greatest, but this is as close to a lock as you will find in the Pac-Man vs. Dinamita battle.
The two have always gone the full 12 rounds and neither has been knocked out, or even delivered a KO of their own, in years.
Pacquiao last delivered a KO prior to the 11th round back in Ricky Hatton in May 2009. The last time a Pac-Man fight was stopped early and the Filipino lost was back in September 1999, when Medgoen Singsurat scored a KO in the third round.
Marquez knocked out Likar Ramos in the first round of a July 2011 matchup, but hasn’t once suffered a KO of his own in his career. It’s unlikely that will start in 2012, as the boxer has managed to avoid them since 1993.
This one will go to the judges and certainly go the distance, so take the over in your bets.
