Saturday night's blockbuster fight between Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez doesn't just impact the boxers and the people in their corners; it also creates energy around the betting world.
People will be placing bets from now until the fights begin, and the main fight isn't the only one worth paying attention to. Three undercard fights will also have people placing their stake on one fighter or the other and also paying attention to when each bout ends.
Lines are constantly changing, so make sure you check before you do anything, but let's take a look at how things currently stand for each one of Saturday night's matches.
Yuriorkis Gamboa vs. Michael Farenas
Bovada has Gamboa at -5,000 and Farenas at +1,400, with the over/under for 5.5 rounds at -160 (over) to +115 (under).
Sportsbook sets the fight at Gamboa +2,000 and Farenas -1,000, but doesn't have an over/under line up.
Wagerweb has Gamboa at -2,680 and Farenas at +1,400. They also have the over/under set, but, unlike Bovada, it's at 7.5 rounds. The over is +150 and the under is -190.
Lastly, Betonline has Gamboa as the favorite at -2,100 to +1,500.
As you can see, Gamboa, as a former champion, is the heavy favorite all around here. If you're thinking of placing a wager on this bout, follow the odds and put your money on him. Just because Farenas is nicknamed "Hammer Fist" doesn't mean that he's ready to pull off the victory here.
Miguel Vazquez vs. Mercito Gesta
Vazquez is favored by Bovada at -140 while Gesta comes in at +110. The over/under is set at 9.5 rounds, with the over being -550 and the under being +325.
Sportsbook has Vazquez at -145 and Gesta at +115, only slightly different than Bovada's payout.
Wagerweb also favors Vazquez, but only by a little bit. Currently, Vazquez is -130 while Gesta is -110. The over/under here is also set at 9.5 rounds with the over being -550 and the under coming in at +335.
Oddly enough. Betonline doesn't have a current line on this one.
This could be one of the most exciting fights of the night. Gesta is seeking his first major title, and an upset wouldn't be all that shocking. He's only 25 years old, but he's a dangerous puncher who also knows how to defend himself.
Putting your money on the champion seems ideal, but this is one where taking the underdog isn't a bad idea. As for the over/under, I would take the under because of both fighters' power.
Javier Fortuna vs. Patrick Hyland
Bovada has Fortuna as a heavy favorite at -1,400 to Hyland's +750. The over/under is at 7.5 rounds, with the over being +175 and the under being -255.
Sportsbook has Fortuna at -875 and Hyland at +575, a much closer margin than Bovada's large spread.
Wagerweb falls closer to Bovada's train of thought, with Fortuna at -1,450 and Hyland at +785. They also place the over.under at 7.5 rounds. The over is -185 and the under is -250 as of right now.
Lastly you have Betonline putting Fortuna at -1,200 and Hyland at +800.
Hyland's resume looks nice at first glance (27-0, 12 KO), but he hasn't beaten anyone noteworthy. He's more of a brawler, and he doesn't have much else besides a straightforward fighting style working in his favor.
Fortuna is more talented, and he's looking to put himself on the map with a huge performance in this one. I'd take the favorite here every single time, and I'd also bet the under.
Manny Pacquiao vs. Juan Manuel Marquez
Bovada has all sorts of betting types for Saturday night's main event, so I'll hit you with the basic ones here. As of now, Pacquiao is favored -270 to +210 for Marquez. There are also a series of over/under bets to take a look at.
The over/under for 10.5 rounds is -270 to +185. For 8.5 rounds, it's -400 to +250. At 6.5 rounds, it's -700 to +375. If you think it's going to be really short you can go 4.5 rounds with -1,400 being the over and +575 being the under, or at 2.5 rounds the over is -5,000 to +1,000.
Remember, most of those are changing constantly and will be until the fight is under way. There's also bets for method of victory, round groups and if the fight will go the distance or not.
Sportsbook isn't as in-depth, but Pacquiao is favored there as well at -250 to +190 for Marquez.
Wagerweb is also a little different, placing Pac-Man at -255 and Marquez at +187. They have the over/under at 10.5 rounds with -275 on the over and +185 on the under.
Betonline is also different for those who prefer it there. Pacquiao is currently at -270 and Marquez is at +210. The over/under is also at 10.5 rounds like the others, with the over being -270 and the under being +210.
This fight is going to last awhile, just like the last three editions did, but I expect Marquez to win this time around. The smart money should go his way.
