Floyd Mayweather Says May 4 Robert Guerrero Fight Is 'Just a Rumor'
Jan 23rd 2013, 22:20

With multiple reports coming out over the last few weeks of pound-for-pound king, Floyd Mayweather Jr., and his plans to fight interim WBC title holder Robert Guerrero on May 4 followed by rising star Saul "Canelo" Alvarez in September, Mayweather has been quiet on the situation until now.

Mayweather took to his Twitter Wednesday to clear the air about his next fight.

Mayweather Tweeted:

As of right now I don’t know who I’m fighting on May 4th. Me fighting Robert Guerrero is just a rumor.

— Floyd Mayweather (@FloydMayweather)

With Mayweather letting the world know that he, in fact, does not have a set opponent for his scheduled May 4 bout, one has to wonder if Mayweather opts to fight Alvarez on May 4 instead of taking on Guerrero, in what many are calling a tune-up fight.

Guerrero would be more than a tune-up fight like most think, as he showed he has the skill and the toughness to give a world-class fighter like Andre Berto the beating of his career. With Berto being a somewhat defensive-minded fighter like Mayweather, Guerrero could give Mayweather a run for his money if their bout does indeed get signed.

No other names have really been mentioned as legitimate opponents for Mayweather's two rumored 2013 fights, so if Mayweather does fight "Canelo" first then it wouldn't make sense to fight Guerrero after.

The latest tweet from Mayweather only adds more questions to the future of the 43-0 fighter. The latest turn of events is sure to anger fans more, as Mayweather has been quiet on his plans over the past several months, since his release from a Clark County jail in August of 2012.
