Broner vs. Rees: Events Sure to Occur During The Problem's WBC Title Defense
Feb 16th 2013, 12:00

Adrien "The Problem" Broner (25-0, 21 KO) is set for his first defense of his WBC lightweight title. His opponent is Gavin "The Rock" Rees (37-1, 18 KO) from the United Kingdom.

Rees is a solid fighter, but I give him little to no chance of beating The Problem at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, N.J. on Saturday night. When breaking down both fighters, it doesn't take long to see which one is superior.

Based on what I've seen, I can almost guarantee that most—if not all—of the following events will occur during the fight.

Broner Will Annoy and Delight Fans

This is a constant with Broner.

There seems to be no middle ground with him. This is the case with most polarizing figures in boxing. His braggadocios comments, demeanor and overall style will rub many the wrong way, but will also endear him to some.

From in-ring dancing to fake wedding proposals, Broner goes to great lengths to stand out. That won't change on Saturday night.

Broner will put on his normal display before, during and after the fight.

Broner Will Pot-Shot

The champion employs the Philly Shell technique; one prominent tactic of fighters that use this base stance is pot-shotting. Of course, you have to have better-than average defense and quick hands to do this, and Broner has both.

Rees isn't in the same class as an athlete, so he'll be an easy target for this type of attack.

This type of tactic also allows a fighter like Broner to avoid potentially dangerous exchanges. It is the perfect way for a superior athlete to shine without giving his opponent a chance to land a lucky shot that changes the fight.

Rees Will Bleed

The speed and power advantage Broner will enjoy coupled with Rees' less-than stellar defense will be bad news for the challenger's face.

By the fifth round, Rees will be bruised and bloodied from Broner's shots. He's a tough guy, so I don't expect him to give in easily, but the end of this fight could come because of a doctor's better judgement.

Broner Will Win

There aren't many scenarios I can imagine that place Broner in danger of losing this fight. He told Deadspin that he "could make any fight look easy," and in this case, I believe him.

The Problem will win by TKO or KO.
