Floyd Mayweather Back with Father as Trainer Heading into May 4
Feb 15th 2013, 05:36

After a troubled relationship over the past few years it now appears that blood is thicker than water as Floyd Mayweather Jr. and his father, Floyd Mayweather Sr., have made amends. Mayweather Jr. posted a picture on his Instagram account Wednesday announcing the father-son duo was back in business.

"Me & my trainer (my dad) back working together getting ready for May 4th," Floyd Jr posted on his Instagram account along with the photo.

It is good news for both Mayweathers involved as Floyd Jr. seemed to lose a step or two in his bouts that his father was not in his corner for. On May 4 we will find out if that was a result of his dad's absence in training camp or if it was father time taking its toll on Mayweather.

Now that Mayweather Jr. has at least showed that he is training for a May 4 date, the next announcement everyone wants to hear is who his opponent for that Cinco de Mayo weekend bout will be.

The two speculated fighters that Floyd Jr. may take on are Saul "Canelo" Alvarez and Robert Guerrero after trying to fight Devon Alexander was stopped when the IBF denied the bout. Public interest suggests that they want to see either Alvarez or Guerrero as the opponent, so the Alexander bout being halted was a good thing for everyone but Alexander.

Given the entertainment Floyd Jr. and Sr. have provided over the years in HBO's 24/7, watching how the two interact with each other in the training camp on 24/7 will be a must-see. The father-son relationship hit its lowest point during an episode of 24/7 leading up to the Victor Ortiz bout, when Floyd Jr. kicked his father out of his gym while cussing him out for the world to see.

It remains to be seen how Mayweather Sr.'s impact will be in Floyd Jr.'s performance on May 4, but at least for family reasons it's good to see the bond of father and son being stronger than harsh words and grudges.
