Guerrero's Dad Setting His Son Up for a Huge Letdown with Mayweather Trash-Talk
Feb 27th 2013, 17:11

As the May 4 fight date steadily inches closer, the fathers of Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Robert Guerrero have started their own quarrel in the press, badmouthing one another and threatening physical violence against each other.

After Guerrero (31-1-1, 18 KOs) said how sweet it will be to beat Mayweather Jr. (43-0, 26 KOs) with Mayweather Sr. back in his corner via social media, Floyd Sr. took offense to the statement and issued a warning to Guerrero and his father, Ruben Guerrero.

Mayweather Sr. told FightHype.com:

Guerrero is gonna be in trouble if he thinks he's kicking my son's ass, and like I told the reporter that came into the gym the other day, I don't give a f--k how old his daddy is, if he get out of line, I'll kick his ass. So my son gonna kick "The Ghost" ass and if his daddy get out of line, I'm gonna kick his ass. We are not taking him lightly and we not playing, man. At the end of the day, my son will still be undefeated.

Once the elder Guerrero caught wind of Mayweather Sr.'s threat, he issued one of his own while talking to BoxingScene.com.

"I'm ready to go. We're ready. However they want to do it, let's do it. It don't even have to be in the MGM, we can do it in the parking lot. I never lost a fight in the street and I never lost a fight in boxing... I don't f--k around. I'm from the barrio holmes. I've been shot, I've been stabbed, I've been everything.

Guerrero's father took it even further saying not only will he beat Mayweather Sr. in a fight, that he would beat Mayweather Jr. in a fight at the same time.

"I'll kick his f-----g ass, him and his son. I can meet them both in the parking lot. I don't need Robert. I'll kick both of their f-----g asses," Guerrero's father told Boxing Scene.

Sure, Guerrero's dad is a tough guy who would probably beat Mayweather Sr. in a street fight. He has over 10 years on Floyd Sr., so that's not saying too much. But saying he would take out Mayweather Jr. is laughable and is nothing more than the elder Guerrero hyping the fight up even more.

It is great for a fighter's entourage to stoke the flames before a fight to garner more interest in the bout, but Guerrero's father is barking up the wrong tree here.

Mayweather is not Andre Berto. Both Guerrero's must understand that going into the May 4 battle. Guerrero's dad mentioned how his son beat Berto to a pulp, but Mayweather Jr. is on a different level than Berto.

Getting this much involved in the buildup to the bout and giving Mayweather Jr. even more motivation to come out and show that he still is the pound-for-pound king of the sport may backfire on the Guerreros.

All this talk of beating both Mayweathers by himself and that his son is going to send Mayweather Jr. to the hospital is going to create a huge letdown for Guerrero. If Mayweather Jr. beats Guerrero soundly, as will most likely be the case, then he will make the Guerreros look like fools.

The boxing world has seen many fighters come out and say that they are going to hand Mayweather Jr. his first loss, and every time they have failed to deliver. Once May 4th comes and goes, you will be able to add one more fighter to that list, as Mayweather Jr. will shame the Guerreros as his latest victory en route to a 44-0 record.
