ESPN Deportes is reporting that Juan Manuel Marquez (54-6-1, 40 KOs) will face WBO welterweight champion Timothy Bradley (30-0, 12 KOs) on September 14 at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas.

The tweet translates as, “'Dinamita' Marquez confirmed his return to boxing and says that Tim Bradley is a great challenge in his career.'”

The Spanish-language ESPN channel mentioned that by choosing to face Tim Bradley, Marquez is opting to try to make history as the first Mexican to win five titles in five different weight classes.

Although JMM's trainer, Nacho Beristain, has previously said that it would be hard to convince him to have his top fighter face Bradley (per BoxingScene.com), things have obviously changed. This may be due to the fact that Bradley turned in a great all-action performance versus Ruslan Provodnikov in his last title defense on March 16.

ESPN's UK affiliate stated that Bradley's camp—including manager Cameron Dunkin—was more interested in a rematch with Manny Pacquiao in order to settle any doubts lingering over their first fight.

Juan Manuel Marquez will be stepping into the ring for the first time since knocking out Manny Pacquiao in December of 2012.
