Floyd Mayweather's Unwavering Confidence Is Bad Sign for Robert Guerrero
Apr 18th 2013, 18:41

When Floyd Mayweather (43-0) squares off against Robert Guerrero (31-1-1) May 4 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, the unwavering confidence shown throughout the pre-fight build from the undefeated champion is a sign of trouble coming for the challenger.

A determined and focused Mayweather is the most dangerous kind.

While there is no discounting how talented Guerrero is as a boxer (elite speed and power) and how much of a threat being a left-handed fighter poses against Mayweather, this is not the first battle that Money has engaged in.

The talk of a left-handed game plan that Mayweather can’t handle is ludicrous, especially after beating lefty Victor Ortiz in 2011 with a decisive knockout victory.

There is nothing that Guerrero brings to the table that Money hasn’t see many times before.

Mayweather told ESPN about the certainty he has in his ability to outsmart Guerrero and how he feels the long layoff since his last fight (May of 2012) won’t hurt him:

No one has a blueprint in how to beat Floyd Mayweather Jr. All 43 opponents had a gameplan, all 43 opponents came up short. No-one has found a way to break the Mayweather code. I don't think the layoff will hurt me. I've faced every style, so it's not hard for me to make adjustments.

Most athletes that speak with the cockiness that Mayweather has his entire career would either be making up for an inefficiency or covering their own nervousness, but when Money speaks about his fights and how he feels leading up to them, it’s the one time you better believe he is telling the truth.

That unwavering tenacity is what makes Mayweather one of the best in history because he believes that he is going to win every fight.

While there will be experts that pick against Money in this battle, there isn’t an ounce of doubt that will creep into Mayweather’s mind before this fight.

After so many years of fighting, Mayweather has become a master of keeping his mind focused on training harder than almost any boxer in the world.

All of Mayweather's unabashed swagger comes from knowing that his elite training regimen and mental focus have given himself the best chance to succeed using his natural talents.

Guerrero undoubtedly has confidence in himself, but Mayweather knows he will win this fight.
