Floyd Mayweather vs. Robert Guerrero: Last Minute Money Lines for Fight
May 4th 2013, 18:12

Floyd Mayweather and Robert Guerrero are about to put up their fists, so let's get prepared with some last minute money lines.

Given that this is the first bout between Mayweather and Guerrero, it's important to approach the bets in a similar fashion as the fighters: With caution.

For starters, although these are two experienced boxers with a combined 74-1-1 record, having yet to square off also means unfamiliarity. By the same token, Mayweather is six years older, undefeated—which adds pressure—and the two have varying styles.

Therefore, expect more sizing up to occur during the beginning stages of the match. And because of that, opting for the following lines are the safer measure when the bell rings.

Note: Betting lines current as of Saturday, May 4 at 2:10 p.m. and courtesy of Bovada.

Mayweather (-650) over Guerrero

Taking Mayweather is the much easier bet here.

Combine his perfect record with 26 knockouts and that flawlessness is hard to come by. He's also much faster on his feet than Guerrero, as well as quicker for reacting when blocking and counterattacking.

In an article by Chris Mannix of Sports Illustrated, Mayweather also has an edge regarding the weight class:

Guerrero, a longtime 126-pounder, is making just his third fight at 147 pounds, Mayweather's preferred weight class. And in every physical category -- speed, power, technique -- Mayweather is superior.

Now factor in Mayweather's accuracy when striking and Guerrero will get knocked around a few times. Even though Guerrero brings the stamina to last 12 rounds, three of Mayweather's previous four have gone the full length.

So, the guy can take power shots and dodge enough to immediately capitalize. If anything, Mayweather's ability to react is the strongest advantage.

Under 11.5 Rounds (+170)

This fight has the making of a knockout.

In one corner, the match has a consistent marksman in Mayweather to constantly keep the pressure on Guerrero. And with his connection of punches accumulating, that will wear Guerrero down as the fight progresses.

But in the other corner, Guerrero has the power to hit big with his attacks. The sooner he can establish precision versus Mayweather, well, that bodes nicely for a knockout in the later rounds. It's just a matter of actually getting a few good hits in to slow down Mayweather's onslaught.

Either way, the explosiveness of Mayweather is capable of totally dominating Guerrero from start to finish. Whereas Guerrero's power will impact Mayweather's attack once he starts landing a few power strikes.

Fight does not go the distance (+180)

Another line in favor of a knockout, these two boxers have primarily won because of bashing the opposition.

Of their combined 74 wins, 44 are knockouts, which equates to 59.4 percent. So, just by the law of averages and how each participant fights increases the odds of a knockout. As previously discussed, though, expect the fight to pickup in the middle rounds.

Each fighter will have to get a feel for adjusting early on, along with planning combinations and counter attacks. Thereafter the action will get rolling and end prior to the final bell.

The talent by setting up the opponent to get into big striking position is evident with each competitor. This chess-match will simply be decided by who lands with efficiency when an opportunity arises.
