When Floyd Mayweather (43-0, 26 KOs) squares off against Robert Guerrero (31-1-1, 18 KOs) Saturday night in Las Vegas, the undefeated boxing legend will add another chapter to his legacy by defeating his opponent via convincing unanimous decision.
Mayweather is one of the most dangerous fighters in the sport, and while Money has the power to knock out his challengers, Guerrero is one of the toughest-chinned competitors to ever step into the ring with the champion.
With both men planning on going all 12 rounds in this title bout, Mayweather will have ample time to withstand Guerrero’s onslaught, assert his dominance and finish the fight on a positive note to ensure a decision victory.
There is no question that The Ghost will use the lessons learned in his victory over Andre Berto to attack Mayweather early and often and push the tempo of the fight through the first three to four rounds. It will be imperative that Money sustains as little damage as possible during Guerrero’s offensive attacks.
Mayweather took some serious abuse from Miguel Cotto in his last bout, and he knows that Guerrero will be using that video as the template to break down and exploit the undefeated champion’s weaknesses.
The previous 43 challengers also had a game plan, though.
After using his defensive prowess to frustrate every fast-paced offensive move from The Ghost, Money will spend the middle portions of this title bout counterpunching the slowing Guerrero as he starts to tire from the nonstop offensive assault.
Mayweather’s elite defensive style gives him the ability to catch his opponents in vulnerable positions and use his quickness and pesky power to wear down on them over the course of eight rounds with stellar counter punches from every angle.
Once this fight gets past the eighth round, Mayweather will take over.
While Guerrero has been billed as a giant slayer after his stunning win over Berto, Money is undefeated for a reason and he thrives in the last four rounds of these high-profile title matches.
Not only does Mayweather have the decision victories to prove his dominance, the fact that seven of his knockout victories have come in the eighth round or later proves he only gets more dangerous as the fight goes on.
The Ghost will withstand the hard punching of Mayweather throughout this fight and avoid the KO, but when the final bell sounds, it will be clear from the damage on Guerrero’s face and the judges’ scorecards that Mayweather was the decisive winner.
This will be a hard-fought unanimous-decision victory for Mayweather.
