In our opening contest, IBF welterweight champion Devon Alexander (24-1, 13 KO) will hope to take the next step towards bigger fights when he faces late substitute Lee Purdy (20-3-1, 13 KO).
Alexander was originally scheduled to defend his crown against rising British star Kell Brook, but an injury forced the postponement of the fight. The IBF title will not be on the line in this bout after Purdy failed to make weight on Friday.
Then, in the main event, two of the best 140-pound fighters in the world will meet at a catchweight of 141 pounds to determine who will go on to face unified junior welterweight champion Danny Garcia in the fall.
Lamont Peterson (31-1-1, 16 KO) scored the biggest win of his career when he upset Amir Khan to capture the IBF and WBA 140-pound titles in December 2011. But when a March rematch fell through after Peterson failed a drug test, he was forced out of the ring for over a year.
His opponent, Lucas Matthysse (33-2, 31 KO), is known as a fearsome power-puncher who has established himself as one of the most avoided fighters in boxing. Many felt he deserved to win in each of his two losses. He will look to check Peterson's chin early and often.
