Mayweather vs. Guerrero Fight: Where Smart Money Should Be Tonight
May 5th 2013, 01:15

The stage is set for Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Robert Guerrero leading up to their fight at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Heading into the fight, the smart money should be on the undefeated, pound-for-pound No. 1 Mayweather.

The older Mayweather will be challenged by the younger and quicker Guerrero, but his experience and overall talent will be enough to improve his record to 44-0 after tonight.

Mayweather hasn't fought in just about a year, so it wouldn't be shocking to see him come out with a little bit of rust. Guerrero, on the other hand, had his last fight in November as he beat Andre Berto to retain the Interim WBC Welterweight title.

While that could be seen as an advantage for Guerrero, the time off and coming into the fight with no nagging injuries could be in Mayweather's favor. Either way, it shouldn't have a big impact on the fight. These minor advantages will be gone following the first few moments of the fight.

That won't be enough for Guerrero to take down the undefeated Mayweather. This will simply come down to Mayweather being the better overall fighter.

After all the hype surrounding a fight with Manny Pacquiao and the subsequent jail time, Mayweather will be determined to win this fight and prove himself once again. Mayweather, 36, will also be looking to prove that he's not too old to be considered the best.

Mayweather's defensive style of boxing has carried him to 43 straight victories, and it won't be Guerrero who is able to crack the code. Guerrero has taken too many punches in his recent fights, despite being victorious. Against the strong Mayweather, that won't be a viable option.

With five more years of experience, Mayweather has seen enough styles of boxing that he won't be outmatched by Guerrero. There's nothing that Guerrero can bring to the table that Mayweather won't have already seen. With more fights as well, Mayweather has surely seen it all and won't be surprised.

Another reason to bet on Mayweather is that Guerrero's aggressive style plays right into Mayweather's hands. With Guerrero attacking, he opens himself up to Mayweather's potential knockout blows. Expect Mayweather to size up Guerrero before countering with some massive blows.

While Guerrero is a strong challenger and should provide an entertaining fight, he doesn't have the skill or experience to give Mayweather his first career loss. Tonight, the smart money is definitely on "Money" to stay undefeated.
