Mayweather vs. Pacquiao: There's No Reason for Money May to Fight Pac-Man May 6th 2013, 11:00 While there was once a time for Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Manny Pacquiao, that time has long since passed. With that being said, according to ESPN UK, Pacquiao would still like to fight Mayweather despite the fact he's now suffered two consecutive losses. Pacquiao's advisor Michael Koncz recently spoke on the subject to iFilm London (per the ESPN UK report): We're open to that fight, we've always wanted that fight. Now it's in Floyd's court because Manny himself said on our last press tour when we fought [WBO welterweight champion Timothy] Bradley, that he's willing to accept less. We're willing to do the blood tests whenever and any kind of testing as long as Floyd does the same and we're willing to give him 60% and we'll take 40%. Let's be clear: There is no question who the best boxer on the planet is right now. That's Mayweather, in case you were wondering. Dan Rafael of ESPN—who ranks Mayweather No. 1—currently has Pacquiao as the No. 4 welterweight in the world. ESPN.com has Pacquiao as the No. 4 pound-for-pound boxer in the world. In that regard, there's no reason for Mayweather to fight Pacquiao. It's not just that Pac-Man has dropped his last two fights, it's that he got knocked out in his last fight against Juan Manuel Marquez. That was rather convincing evidence that the once-indestructible Pacquiao has declined at this point in his career. Mayweather doesn't have to prove that he's better than Pacquiao anymore. Everyone recognizes (or everyone should recognize) that he's the best boxer on the planet. While he's been accused of going up against fighters who don't belong in the same ring as him (like Robert Guerrero), he's also defeated fighters such as Oscar De La Hoya, Ricky Hatton, Marquez, Shane Mosley, Victor Ortiz and Miguel Cotto—that's not exactly easy competition. Maybe Mayweather will eventually fight Pacquiao—who knows? The fact is, he doesn't need to. And it wouldn't be the classic fight that fans expected before. So, what's the point? There's no use trying to relive the past. Pacquiao is not what he once was.
