Saturday night, the undisputed pound-for-pound champion will enter the ring for the first time in just under a year, as Floyd Mayweather Jr. will face the surging Robert Guerrero in Las Vegas.
Though the boxing world is still foaming at the mouth with anticipation for the potential Money-Manny Pacquiao bout, for now it will have to settle for a showdown between the 43-0 Mayweather and a rising star in Guerrero.
Mayweather is obviously the clear-cut favorite, and rightfully so, given that he is the WBC Welterweight titleholder, but Guerrero may be able to at least make things interesting.
The Ghost is coming off a pair of impressive victories over Andre Berto and Selcuk Aydin, and as a southpaw, he could be a potentially difficult matchup for Mayweather.
But there's no reason to doubt Mayweather until he actually loses a bout, which may never happen at all, especially because according to ESPN's Dan Rafael, Money will be calling it a career in the not-so-distant future:
In 30 months my career is over. I want to rack up my six victories and hopefully do commentating and keep the sport of boxing alive. That's what I'm focused on."
Well, you know, I only have 30 months left, so I want to just help clean the sport up. After this fight I've got five more fights.
For now, we'll see if Guerrero can challenge Mayweather, or at least avoid a KO, just as Miguel Cotto did during Money's last bout.
