Mayweather vs Guerrero Predictions: Money May's Endurance Will Be the Difference
May 5th 2013, 00:41

There's no doubt that Floyd "Money" Mayweather Jr. will be facing a hungry and worthy opponent when he steps into the ring against Robert "The Ghost" Guerrero, but endurance and the ability to fight through punches will catapult Mayweather to his 44th victory.

After a year-long absence from the ring, Money May has his fair share of doubters in his first fight back from a 64-day jail sentence. This is especially so due to the pedigree and will of "The Ghost," who is coming in ready to shock the world.

Guerrero is known best for his early-round barrages and energetic fighting style. He'll use that to his advantage—even against the undefeated Mayweather.

But it's that boxing style from The Ghost that will have him wearing down as the fight reaches the middle rounds.

Meanwhile, Money May's biggest strength tends to appeal to fighters like Guerrero. Mayweather is incredibly tough to wear down, as we've seen in many fights throughout his career.

There have been many moments where it seemed Mayweather was knocking on the door of his first defeat, but he has always been able to show he's the smarter boxer by saving his energy for the right times.

While Guerrero will throw the kitchen sink at Money May early on, the undefeated boxer will be sagging back and keeping himself from becoming susceptible to hard blows. In doing this, he'll set up the counterpunches that have battered so many of his past opponents.

The 36-year-old isn't going to try and knock Guerrero out with one punch early on, but that's never been Money May's style. He's always been a grind-it-out competitor who lets his opponent wear himself down by unsuccessfully trying to wear down Mayweather.

I'm not saying that Mayweather is the most in-shape boxer in the world—we know that can't be true for any 36-year-old—but the way he's able to delegate his energy in the right moments is what will frustrate Guerrero.

As The Ghost starts wearing down in the middle rounds due to his early-round barrage, Mayweather will just be reaching top gear. That's when he will assert his dominance.

Mayweather's peak endurance may not result in a knockout come Saturday night, but it will keep him attacking late. With Guerrero's tough mentality heading into the fight, Money will indeed need to be able to save his energy for the right times.

If there's one thing Mayweather is able to do in the ring, it's just that.
