The day after Floyd Mayweather dismantled Robert Guerrero at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, it is already time to start thinking about his next fight.
Mayweather is in a great position when it comes to scheduling his next opponent.
He can thank his sterling performance on Saturday night for that. Money won a unanimous 117-111 decision over Guerrero, and at the age of 36, he looked as good as ever.
With this performance, he further entrenched himself as the best pound-for-pound fighter on the planet and the sport's biggest draw.
As a result, he isn't going to feel pressured to schedule any single fighter, and he has a nice choice of attractive options for his next opponent.
Here are the three best.
No. 3: Winner of Juan Manuel Marquez vs. Timothy Bradley Fight
Boxing fans have been clamoring for a fight between Money and Manny Pacquiao for years. So it only stands to reason that the two men who have sent Pacquiao to consecutive defeats would provide the greatest matchup against Money in the history of matchups.
Well, it doesn't work exactly like that, but either of these guys would still provide for a thrilling opponent.
Money and Marquez battled in 2009, and Money won fairly easily via a unanimous decision. However, Marquez has looked to be at the top of his game, and he showed he can atone for past defeats by knocking Pacquiao cold.
Meanwhile, Bradley would be an intriguing option should he win. If that happens, Money and Bradley's combined record entering that fight would be 75-0.
How can anyone not get excited about that?
No. 2: Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez
Saul Alvarez is rapidly rising up pound-for-pound charts. Canelo is just 22 years old, but he already has an impressive resume.
He is 42-0-1. His last time in the ring, he beat the talented Austin Trout.
Canelo has the kind of power it would take to beat Mayweather, which would make the buildup for this fight entertaining. Ultimately, I think Canelo is far too easy to hit to beat Money, but he would definitely have a puncher's chance.
Also, this young Mexican has a huge fanbase, and a fight between these two would be a massive event.
Taking on Canelo would offer Money a chance at a likely record-breaking payday, and it would be tough for his critics to say he was ducking anyone.
No. 1: Manny Pacquiao
Some of the luster has been knocked off this potential fight, but make no mistake about it, this would still be the biggest event boxing could present us.
While Manny Pacquiao has lost his last two fights, it's not like he has looked terrible in doing so. In my mind, it was clear that Pacquiao defeated Bradley. It was also clear that Manny looked great against Marquez and was on his way to a victory...until he was knocked cold, that is.
With this, we still have the most popular boxers going and two interesting styles. Manny brings his straight-ahead brawling style while Floyd flourishes with defense and counterpunching.
This fight would be a huge event, and likely wildly entertaining.
