A highly anticipated rematch will go down on Saturday day when Mikkel Kessler and Carl Froch battle it out live from the O2 Arena in London. The super-middleweight unification bout will see Froch defend his IBF title and Kessler his WBA title.
The live telecast starts at 6 p.m. EDT on HBO in the United States.
The first fight, which took place in 2010, saw Kessler beat Froch by unanimous decision. But since then, Froch has greatly improved. And at 35 years old, he comes in as the odds-on favorite, according to Tom Craze of BadLeftHook.com.
As reported earlier in the week by Kevin Francis of BoxingScene.com and the Daily Star, Froch took the pre-fight hype to a different level on Wednesday when he said he would kill Kessler if he had to. Those are strong words, but it just shows how much this bout truly means to him. With the London fans behind him, Froch will be looking to turn in a dynamic performance against one of only two men to have beaten him.
Since beating Froch the first time, Kessler has not faced the highest level of opposition. He will be trying to prove that, at 34 years old, he is not only capable of competing with the best, but also defeating them. Fighting in a loud, pro-Froch environment will give Kessler an added task to overcome. On top of boxing intelligent, he'll need to make sure rounds aren’t close, because those will likely go to the hometown fighter.
Regardless of the outcome, if the second fight is anything like the first one, fight fans can expect some entertaining action. Stick with Bleacher Report for live round-by-round scoring and analysis.
