On Saturday, May 11, 2013, the WBC’s No. 15 ranked middleweight in the world—Tony “Mo Better” Jeter (15-3-1, 10 KOs)—will face off against Victor Hugo Correa (15-5, 10 KOs) of Mexico, live from Club One Fitness in Millersville, Md.
Jeter will be defending his WBC Fecarbox championship against Correa in a 10-round bout. Jeter is coming off of a highly successful year in 2012 that saw him notch three big wins against tough competition. Most notably, Jeter scored a 10-round decision win in an upset over Jimmy Lange in October of 2012.
The 37-year-old Jeter was named Boxing Along the Beltway’s 2012 Boxer of the Year and will be looking to capitalize on the momentum and recognition he has built in his last few fights. Aside from headlining the fight card, Jeter’s company—Jeter Promotions—will be promoting its fifth boxing event.
Jeter has been upbeat about training and seems poised to put on a strong performance against Correa.
“Training is going great. We’ve been putting in a ton of work and at this point the hard part is done. Showing up and fighting is the easy part.”
Although he admits to not knowing much about his opponent, Jeter expects Correa to be in shape and ready to fight.
Jeter also believes that this fight card will be a positive step in the right direction for his promotional company. He looks forward to strengthening the relationship he has built with the WBC and help other boxers in the D.C., Maryland and Virginia area as well.
If Jeter can beat Correa on May 11, he will be well on his way to cracking the WBC's top-10 rankings by the end of the year.
Aside from Jeter versus Correa in the main event, the boxing card will also feature Brooklyn’s Phillip Jackson-Benson (11-1, 10 KOs) versus Baltimore’s Maxell “The General” Taylor (18-4-1, 8 KOs) in the co-main event. Jackson-Benson and Taylor will be battling for the vacant WBC Fecarbox super middleweight championship.
Tickets can be purchased at the door on the night of the fight or by calling Club One Fitness at 410-729-3900.
