Adonis Stevenson Destroys Chad Dawson, Wins Light Heavyweight Title
Jun 8th 2013, 21:16

What a night of fights!

Adonis Stevenson shocked the world, and claimed the light heavyweight championship, with a stunning first round technical knockout victory over former champion Chad Dawson Saturday night in Montreal.

Stevenson, who has a reputation for huge punching power, landed an absolutely stunning left hand and sprawled Dawson to the canvas. He was able to beat the count, but his legs were clearly shot forcing the referee to stop the contest.

With the win Stevenson (21-1, 18 KO) claims the the lineal light heavyweight title, as well as the WBC and The Ring Magazine crowns.

In our opening contest Yuriorkis Gamboa remained undefeated with a lethargic and uninspired unanimous decision over Darleys Perez. Gamboa scored a questionable knockdown of Perez in the first round, and caught a break when the referee ruled a Perez knockdown a slip in the 11th, to win the fight by unanimous decision.

Scores were 116-111, 116-111, and 115-112 for Gamboa who improves to 23-0, with 16 knockouts.
