Adrien "The Problem" Broner (27-0, 22 KO) defeated Paulie "The Magic Man" Malignaggi (32-5) by split decision and took his WBA welterweight championship at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

Schreck's scorecard was purely ridiculous, but ultimately the right fighter won the fight.
It was a difficult fight to score because Malignaggi was the far busier fighter. This tweet from the ShoStats official Twitter account shows the disparity in punches thrown:
By winning, Broner became a champion in his third weight class. At only 23 years old, The Problem has set himself up for bigger and better things. The fight clearly wasn't as easy for Broner as many expected.
The Magic Man had his moments, but his Achilles' heel is his lack of power.
Malignaggi had the hometown crown behind him, and he had a decent game plan, but he didn't have the power or energy to successfully employ it.
The 32-year-old tried to outwork Broner with pitty-pat punches to the body, but Malignaggi's lack of power made the shots less than effective. Though he scored early, the shots didn't take anything out of Broner.
Toward the middle of the fight, Malignaggi's pace began to slow and Broner increased his work rate. During the fight, Broner's punches were the most effective throughout the night. That factor won him the fight.
After the fight was over, more of the below-the-belt trash talk from Broner continued. During an interview with Showtime's Jim Gray, The Problem said: "I left here with his belt and his girl."
Malignaggi became incensed, and the two had to be separated. It was a fitting end to a bizarre fight saga that was highlighted by an entertaining bout.
