Courtside tickets for NBA regular-season games are expensive, but how much does it cost to sit on the hardwood for Game 7 of the NBA Finals?
Oh, nothing—just $25,000 a pop, according to TMZ.
The site is reporting that professional boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. is being sued after allegedly failing to pay for his courtside tickets at the 2013 NBA Finals.
The suit has been filed by White Glove Entertainment, a premium event and concierge service. According to the lawsuit, Mayweather Jr. hired its services June 20 for the purpose of procuring him three courtside tickets to Game 7 between the Miami Heat and the San Antonio Spurs.
For reference, Game 7 was on June 20. I guess it’s never too late to get tickets when money is no object.
The courtside seats cost $25,000 a piece, and Mayweather Jr. ended up buying an additional front row seat for $5,000, presumably so his wallet could watch the game.
In total, Mayweather Jr.’s balance for the transaction was somewhere around $80,000—a sum White Glove alleges the boxer hasn’t paid. The company has filed the suit looking to claim its deserved payment plus interest.
The question is—how is this even possible?
Why would Mayweather Jr.—one of the wealthiest athletes in the world—not pay a measly $80,000 bill for courtside tickets?
When you’re worth around $170 million and have raked in $34 million over the last nine months, why not just pony up?
We don’t know. Perhaps he overlooked a few bills. Maybe his black card didn’t swipe properly, or he wasn’t satisfied with the view from his courtside seats (Is that even possible?).
I guess we’ll have to wait and see. In the meantime, the boxer has more pressing matters to focus on. Mayweather Jr. faces off against Saul “Canelo” Alvarez on Saturday—a match that very well could end in Alvarez upsetting Money Mayweather.
