Mayweather Fight: Win for Floyd Won't Make Career Any More Impressive
Sep 14th 2013, 00:57, by Tyler Brooke

Everyone knows just how impressive Floyd Mayweather's career has been, but a win over Canelo Alvarez on Saturday won't make it any more amazing.

Money has accomplished so much in his career. He boasts a perfect record of 44-0 with 26 career knockouts. He's considered the best pound-for-pound boxer in the world. He currently holds several titles, including the WBC welterweight and WBA Super welterweight belts.

Some of the fighters that Mayweather has faced have been impressive wins as well. He has defeated the likes of Shane Mosley, Robert Guerrero, Victor Ortiz and Oscar De La Hoya.

After looking at all of that, would a win over Canelo really make Floyd's career any more impressive?

That's not to say that Canelo is a bad fighter. He certainly isn't. At just 23 years of age, Canelo is already 42-0-1 with 30 knockouts. He's shown some impressive accuracy and power throughout his career.

That power was showcased in his last fight against Austin Trout. Canelo was able to knock Trout down in the seventh round, the first time that Trout had been knocked down in his career.

Taking down another undefeated fighter is impressive, but then again Trout had yet to fight any top-tier fighters heading into that battle. In fact, other than Mosley and maybe Trout, Canelo really hasn't fought any truly elite boxers up to this point in his career.

Canelo is likely going to have trouble as this fight goes on, even if everyone keeps hyping this one up as one of the biggest in a while. There have been a number of critics that have expressed concern over Canelo's stamina, and that's a huge disadvantage for the young boxer.

Money is known for dragging out fights and letting them go the distance. With his speed and ability to make people miss, Canelo will be in big trouble if he starts tiring out as the fight wears down. If he starts slowing down and missing more shots, Floyd will make him pay.

As the No. 1 boxer in the world, there's really nowhere for Mayweather to go but down for the rest of his career. He can keep winning against fighters like Canelo, but none of these fights will cement his legacy as one of the best in the world.

Until Mayweather fights another superstar in the sport, his legacy will remain relatively stagnant. Canelo is a good fighter, but Floyd won't gain much from the fight except for a very big payday.
